M.Sc. (Economics) two-year programmes commencing in August, second class graduates in economics or first class graduates in commerce/statistics /physics /mathematics or BE/B.Tech. are eligible to apply. The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary level.
M.Phil./Ph.D. (Development Studies): These are interdisciplinary programmes commencing in August. The duration of M.Phil. programmes is two years and that Ph.D. programme is four years.
Entry qualification is MA/M.Sc. in Economics / M.Stat. / M.Sc. Physics, Mathematics, Environmental Science or Operations Research/ MBA / M.Tech./ ME / B.Tech./ BE with at least 55 per cent aggregate marks in the economics disciplines and 60 per cent aggregate marks in the other disciplines. The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary level.
M.Phil./Ph.D. students are eligible to receive a monthly stipend of Rs.8,000 during the first two years. Those who fulfil the terms and conditions for Ph.D. registration would receive a monthly stipend of Rs.9, 000 after Ph.D. registration in the third year.
Selection is on the basis of entrance test and interview. Entrance test covers questions on general aptitude, analytical ability and mathematical skills. The test will be held on April 29 in Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi, etc. Interview will be held during the first week of July.
