Biotechnology entrance test

Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, has invited applications for the Combined Biotechnology Entrance Examinations (CBEE-2007) to be held on May 18 at various centres, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Coimbatore, Chennai, Puducherry, Goa, Bangalore, Visakhapatanam, etc. for admission to M.Sc. Biotechnology; M.Sc. Agri. / M.VSc. (Biotechnology) and M.Tech. Biotechnology programmes being offered by various participating universities.
Entry qualification for the course is a bachelor's degree (under the 10+2+3 pattern) in physics, biology, agricultural, veterinary and fishery sciences, pharmacy, engineering and technology or MBBS/BDS with at least 55 per cent marks. In all, 29 universities/institutes are participating in the entrance examination to admit students to M.Sc. Biotechnology programmes. In Kerala, Calicut University is one of the participating universities.
M.Sc. Agricultural Biotechnology programmes are being offered by Chowdhari Sarwan Kumar HP Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Palampur; G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology Pant Nagar; Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur; Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur; Marathwada Agricultural University, Parbhani (Maharashtra); Orissa University of Agricultural and Technology, Bhubaneswar; Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Coimbatore and University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharward.
M.VSc. Biotechnology programmes are being offered at Chowdhury Charan Singh, Haryana; Agricultural University, Hisar; G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pant Nagar and Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwavidyalaya Jabalpur.
M.Tech. Biotechnology programmes are conducted at Anna University, Chennai, and West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata. Entry qualification is minimum 60 per cent marks/equivalent grade in B.Tech./ BE in Chemical / Biochemical Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, Leather Technology, Biotechnology, B.Pharm., Chemical Technology or M.Sc. in Biotechnology / Life Sciences, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Biophysics, Microbial Genetics and Bioinformatics. (Also B.Tech. /BE in Electrochemistry, Bioengineering and M.Sc. in Chemistry and Physics in case of Anna University and M.Sc. in Bioengineering in case of WBUT).
For getting the application form by post candidates should send their request along with a Bank Draft for Rs.180 drawn in favour of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and a self-addressed unstamped envelope of size 28 x 20 cm to the Deputy Registrar (CEEB) Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi - 110 067. The cover should be superscribed - Request for Application for M.Sc. Biotechnology / M.Sc. Agriculture/ M.VSc. Biotechnology / M.Tech. Biotechnology. Last date for receipt of completed application forms is March 16.

B.Sc Hospitality and Hotel Administration
The National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Library avenue, Pusa Complex, New Delhi - 110 012, has invited applications for the national-level Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-2007) for admission to the three-year B.Sc. programme in Hospitality and Hotel administration conducted at various hotel management and catering technology institutes in India. The JEE will be held on April 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at various centres, including Thiruvananthapuram. Total number of seats available on all-India basis is approximately 3,450.
Those who have passed 10+2/equivalent examinations in any stream with English as one of the subjects or appearing for the qualifying examination in 2007 can apply for the JEE.

Application form and admit card (in triplicate) duly filled should be sent by registered post to the above address with the requisite fee of Rs.800 for the general category and Rs.400 for the SC/ST category by demand draft drawn in favour of National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology, payable in New Delhi.
The last date for receipt of completed applications is March 9. The course will commence on July 16. The only Hotel Management Institute in Kerala is functioning at G.V Raja Road, Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram - 695 527.
Application forms and information brochure are also available in the selected Syndicate Bank branches. In Kerala, it will be available at Syndicate Bank branches at Pioneer Towers, Shanmugham Road, Ernakulam; Cherooty Road, Kozhikode; and Baker Junction, Kottayam, and Anakottil Street, West Fort, Thiruvananthapuram.
There are 26 hotel management institutes and 10 food craft institutes conducting B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration courses in India under the direct control of National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology, New Delhi. After successful completion of the course, the Indira Gandhi National Open University will award the degree certificate.
